Wow! May 24, 2000 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Believe it or not, I found out about this book from relatives in Europe. I loved the book and pictures. I don't own a GSMD, YET, but hope to soon. As a "handbook" I find this book to be informative and interesting. Thanks Mr. Barton for your wonderful insights on the breed. Will there be a follow up book from him? I hope so!
Nice photos; generic information May 15, 2000 dmwalker (Pleasanton, CA) 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
The pictures are gorgeous - makes a great coffee table book. However, the info is pretty generic and a bit fluffy considering Barton's years of experience as a Swissy breeder. Looks like the editor was given too much free range on this one, and cut out everything that might have been interesting or useful.
Must have for swissy owner! May 6, 2000 Happy dog owner (dog happy, USA) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I got this book when trying to find info on the breed. Did it help! It answers everything you might want to know. Great pictures and tons of info, good job Jim! Thanks to this book I now own and love my swissy
Very sensitive introduction for Swissy beginners January 16, 2000 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
This book offers a complete overview of this wonderful and truly loving breed. There can be no doubt for whom the author's heart cares. Excellent selection of photos which tell you more than the text. A warning from a Swissy owner: These dogs are fully of energy; make them work for you, go for long walks - and you'll have a superb and devoted companion! For Swissy fans in Europe: get the book at Amazon.de or Amazon.uk.com because of lower handling costs.
Nice photography, generic content June 23, 1999 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This book had some beautiful photography but like most of the TFH series of books was somewhat generic in its content. The information could have applied to most any giant breed dog and seemed to be more entertaining than informative. Considering that the author is an actual breeder of Swiss Mountain Dogs, I had hoped for a more balanced overview of the breed.
