A Great book for the Clicking Beginner! May 21, 2004 Maree M. Jones (Western Australia Australia) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
Peggy Tillman's book is a great starter book for someone who is new to clicker training. Tillman sets out her book in a very simple and easy to read fashion. If you're looking for a good book on the basics of clicker training, you could do a lot worse than to purchase this book. The only "beef" I have with this book is that sometimes it overdoes the simplicity. For example, the illustrations are almost too basic - they seem to be designed for a child! The idea of the illustrations seems to be that you don't have to read any of the book, rather you can just look at the pictures. However, with something like clicker training you really need to READ and understand the principles behind the training, not just look at pictures, so I think the book's intention sort of misses the mark. However, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to clicker beginners!
An inspired guide to training dogs and motivating people July 2, 2003 Barbara G. Cox (Gainesville, FL United States) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Tillman's book is clear, uncluttered, and beautifully illustrated. It's well organized and easily referenced. It has aspects of a cookbook combined with insights into the nature of the bond between humans and their companion dogs. Best of all, it turns dog-training into a pleasurable shared activity rather than a chore. If you don't have a dog but have one or two uncontrollable people in your life, I'm sure it would work with them too!
Clicker training is just amazing.... the book is OK May 28, 2003 Claudiano (Sao Jose dos Campos, SP Brazil) 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
Clicker training is really amazing. You can teach your dog just about anything, as soon as you get the idea behind the method. The book brings lots of tricks you can train your dog. One section that is missing is how to train the dog for a dog show. Luck enough, and as exposed, you can do anything as long as you understand the reasoning behind the clicker. My first Best in Show was attained after I start to use this method to train my dogs to the shows. The other breeders were amazed!!!
Easy to understand, helpful and effective May 2, 2003 N. P. Ladieu (Pittsburgh, PA United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
What I like about this book is the problems and solutions chart. Want your dog to stop jumping on people, go to X page. etc... I think that a good clicker program is a great compliment to using some limited negative reenforcement techniques (choker..etc)
